Sunniva says that the year at Folkehøgskule is something completely unique, and it becomes what you make of it.

I stressed my way through secondary school to get good enough grades to enter veterinary studies. I therefore felt I needed a gap year before I started studying.

When I had to choose which school I wanted to go to, the most important thing for me was that it was a good line. Therefore, I primarily only looked online. I fell in love with SEA from the first moment. I looked at others that I also applied for, but it was always Bakketun that stood out, and I am very happy about that now, says Sunniva.

I've gotten an incredible amount out of the year at folkehøgskule. I have made friends and memories for life, and learned a lot about myself. It is my first year away from the family, so I have been much more independent, which has been very educational. I have also become much more confident in myself by being around people who make me feel safe. At Folkehøgskule, everyone does or says stupid things all the time, we have b. lists of funny quotes people say. It's really fun to look back on.

Sunniva's tips for future folk high school students

I would like to advise you to make the most of the year. Get involved in things that are happening, and not just at the start of the year to get to know each other, but throughout the year. The year at Folkehøgskule is something completely unique, and it becomes what you make of it. It is of course okay to be tired, but try to stay awake and enjoy the experiences and the atmosphere. At Volkehøgskule, you can be who you are no matter what and no one judges you. And one more thing: take lots of pictures! I love taking pictures and have an extremely large number of pictures, but it's always very nice to look back on because you quickly forget small incidents that happen, she says.

Wanted to challenge himself

I chose Sport Extreme Australia (SEA) because I felt I got the most from that line. I wanted to challenge myself in many areas and at the same time get to try many new activities. In addition, SEA had the most exciting liner trip with a trip to Australia and Thailand, where one could, among other things, get a diver's license and jump with a parachute.

It is difficult to pick a highlight because we do very nice things all the time, but I think what has left the deepest mark is the trip we had to Hoddevik and Åre. In Hoddevik we were at a surf camp and surfed for three days. I had heard that it was very difficult, so I had low expectations for the surfing, but I thought it would be fun anyway, but even though it was challenging, it was easier than I thought, so on the first day I caught a wave. It was also very nice to be on a trip with Challenge Explore and Vanlife. In Åre we cycled downhill, and it was very scary but also fantastically fun.

Faga is good. Of course, I'm most happy in the line lessons, because that's when we do the coolest activities. But I think that choir is very cozy and it's also nice to reflect on boarding school subjects and points of view. Then you can find out a bit about what you stand for and what values you have. It is also interesting when we are visited by others who tell different stories or teach about their passions.

I think the environment at the school is very good. Everyone can be with everyone and can goof off and be very disrespectful with each other. There is also a very good relationship between the pupils and the teachers. They do a lot for us to feel comfortable here and you notice that, says Sunniva.

Nice to travel as a group

The whole year has been absolutely fantastic, but the school trip to Spain was a big highlight. The whole school went on a trip together and we did lots of cool things together. It was special to travel with so many. We were, among other things, to Gibraltar and met many monkeys. Another highlight from that trip was Seville. We were in the middle of town and felt like swimming. Then we found a river and jumped in. She was probably not clean at all, but we didn't think about that.

STUDY TRIP TO AUSTRALIA: The liner trip was completely indescribable from end to end, says Sunniva.

The line trip was completely indescribable from end to end. Therefore, it is again difficult to pick out a highlight, but I really enjoyed myself when we parachuted and dived. It was something completely new that stood out from everything else. We also met our friends from Challenge Explore and vanlife when we parachuted. In addition, I loved life when we walked through a nature reserve and went into the sea looking for different animals. We found salamanders, crabs, starfish and fish, says Sunniva.

Sunniva's best tips for the year at Folkehøgskule

  • Join things that happen throughout the year, not just at the start of the year to get to know each other.
  • Enjoy the experiences and the atmosphere - this is the year you do it for yourself.
  • Take lots of pictures - you quickly forget the little things that happen
